Last night firefighters across West Texas were ready to handle several grassfires as we rang in the new year. But in West Odessa, not one sign of flames, until this afternoon. Earlier today volunteer Fire Chief Jimmy Ellis was all smiles. "We were expecting a busy night." ...excited to brag about his slow night. "Everybody used some good common sense and didn't get out and get stupid as far as we know." But less than three minutes into our interview Ellis had to eat his words. The fire chief, a one-man band at the time, sped off leaving us in the dust. Driving up on this fire at Moss and Long proved volunteers would pay the price for such a quiet night. "This is what happens. This is the way our life goes." Volunteers, some in pajamas, switched from relaxing to working. "Looked like a little workshop, had a car inside it. What's left of it. It's totally gone." Consider it a delayed action. What was expected to happen last night eventually came today. "I hope this isn't how we're gonna start the year, but I'm afraid it is." Chief Ellis says he will be asking Ector County Commissioners to re-instate the burn ban if dry conditions continue. |

All the Fantazia and Obsession flyers that I could dig out from back in the day. Fantazia were with out a doubt one of the biggest Rave promoters on the early nineties set up James Perkins and Gideon Dawson, hosting some of the best Raves of all time including New Years Eve 1991 at ther legendary Westpoint Exhibition Centre in Exeter, Second Sight at the same venue, Summertime in Bournmouth, One Step Beyond (the worlds largest Rave) at Castle Donnington, The Showcase at Bath and West Showground and New Years Eve 1992 at Littlecote House. Fantazia also released The First Taste, a quality Rave album full of banging tunes. Fantazia also still run a very sucessful website www.fantazia.org.uk were you can buy tapes. CD's, videos and DVD from all the main raves from back in the day and is also wealth of knowlwdge on the Rave scene. Obsession was set up by Gideon Dawson after he left Fantazia, Obsession went on to host many quality raves including the Third Dimension at Westpoint Exhibition Centre in Exeter, which was without a doubt one of the best Raves of all time, everything about the night was first class !
