A three-part movie about Angela and her friends who begin investigating the letter she has received from her fairy godmother. She is able to find some relief from family tensions as her two best friends, a believer and a skeptic, join in her investigation of the mysterious rolled message. The Gold Dust Letters (Orchard Books/Avon) is the first book of four in the "Investigators of the Unknown" series written by Janet Taylor Lisle. This 116-page book written for students who are in the elementary grades was used as a tool to complete a homework assignment. Within the home school community of Wayne County, three girls between the ages of 9 and 14 decided to read the book and do something different. With the help of their families, Angela, Poco and Georgina came alive on video through the amateur acting of Jasmine Abernathy, Allison White and Christina Fijal. Their mothers helped produce, film and edit the amateur screenplay of The Visual Book Report of The Gold Dust Letters. The families tried very hard to keep the visual story similar to the actual words written by this Rhode Island Writer. A note from the author found on her website said each of the characters were a bit of her personality. "Angela is mystical and wants to believe in the magical properties of life. Georgina is scientific; she wants facts first, than she'll make up her mind. And Poco, she is knowledgeable about people and animals in a way she can't explain."
