Chris DeRose recounts the congressional campaign and election between James Madison and James Monroe in 1789 for Virginia's Fifth District, the only time two future presidents ran against each other for a congressional seat. Mr. DeRose reports that Madison, an author and supporter of the US Constitution and Monroe, a critic of the document, dissolved their once close relationship over their thoughts on the Constitution. The author contends that had James Monroe beaten James Madison for the congressional seat, an election that Madison won by 336 votes, the passage of the Bill of Rights would have been in doubt. This segment started in Moberly where we head East on US 24 to Paris passing Madison. we then hop onto MO 15 North to Shelbina where we meet a 2-laned US 36. We go thou Hunnewell on the old 36 and then head to Monroe City. The segment ends just west of Hannibal (we don't go into Hannibal until the return. Originally, this video was going to be on American Independence Day, but that didn't happen. I also figured out that it might be a little bit long for some people, so I made a shorter one set to "Ruffles and Flourishes", which can be seen here: www.youtube.com I show a total of 53 different snowflakes, two which are three years old, in this video. There's an interesting progression that happens. My criticism and thoughts on my snowflakes, individually in brief: 1. Washington- corny imagery, bad profile, coarse cutting 2. J. Obama The presidential snowflake project was begun in January '11 in a slow time in school, near first semester exams (I didn't have to take any so I had time). I worked on them on and off, with a big pause at the end of February (wonder why I made my St. President's Day video?). I started up again in June. The last snowflake in this series was finished in July '11. The idea was mainly an odd humor. The flakes are supposed to be folk arty, a bit cheesy, over-nostalgic, and excessively patriotic. Also, snowflakes are an inane medium that just doesn't make sense to be about presidents. I'm not quite certain how long I spent on all these snowflakes; I think some of them took near 45 minutes! It's somewhere between 11-18 hours for all of them, maybe even more. |
