eclissidelmondo.blogspot.it martedì 22 maggio 2012 Il 5 e 6 giugno 2012 Venere attraverserà il sole: i Maya lo avevano previsto Un evento che si verificherà di nuovo solo tra 117 anni. Riportato dalla rivista scientifica Nature, è un evento unico per i ricercatori, in quanto sono le condizioni ideali per scoprire altri pianeti. L'astronomo Jay Pasachoff hadichiarato alla rivista inglese: "anche se noi scienziati siamo in grado di inviare sonde spaziali su altri pianeti, per un esame più attento l'osservazione dei transiti dalla Terra fornisce informazioni uniche e ci dà l'opportunità di calibrare e migliorare il nostro metodo di ricerca dei pianeti extrasolari".Un'occasione unica quindi, per cercare di individuare nuovi pianeti lontano dal nostro. Il satellite della NASA ACRIMSAT monitorerà l'evento e ci si concentrerà soprattutto sull'atmosfera del pianeta Venere. Pasachoff ci tiene a sottolineare: "gli spostamenti sono molto rari, perciò perdere questa occasione sarebbe un crimine, lo dobbiamo ai futuri astronomi che osserveranno il passaggio nel 2117". Sembra proprio che il popolo Maya fosse a conoscenza di questo evento stando alle ultime scoperte dell'astronomo e archeologo Jesùs Galindo. Infatti, dopo la scoperta nella città di Mayapan di un antico dipinto murale, sembra che ciò che è stato scambiato per "fine del mondo" non fosse altro che l'evento in questione.
